Library Newsroom

Modern library exterior with glass facade and bold red accents labeled "Auraria Library." Sunny day with stairs and sunflowers leading to entrance.

Starting Oct. 1, 2025, the Auraria Library will require users to swipe campus ID badges to enter the library from 8–10 a.m. Monday–Friday and from 5–8 p.m. Monday–Thursday.

Those without campus ID badges may continue to enter the library during 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Monday–Friday hours. Sundays will continue to be ID badge access-only during the Library’s 9 a.m.–5 p.m. operating hours.

Students, faculty, or staff members who do not have their IDs may contact the Ask Us Desk at 303-315-7763 for entry.

“This change is in response to feedback from the students, faculty, and staff of the Auraria campus,” says Jodi Shepherd, Auraria Library director. “Implementing badge access aligns more closely with other campus buildings, yet allows us to continue to serve the Auraria community during our busiest hours.”

Any individuals already in the library by 5 p.m. may remain until close, provided they adhere to library policies. All library users, including those without campus ID badges, may continue to access the Federal Depository collection during all operating hours by calling the library’s Ask Us desk at 303-315-7763. (Note: Most Federal Depository documents are now available online.)

Badge access will also be required for all operating hours during academic calendar breaks. The library’s hours of operation remain unchanged, and can be viewed on this page on this page.

Library leadership will monitor the effects of these changes through usage data, community feedback, and incident reports to inform future adaptations or measures. Feel free to contact the Auraria Library with any questions about this transition.
